Special Panel Presentation on New Cannabis Products Announced for CCSA’s Issues of Substance

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) is pleased to announce a special addition to the conference program for CCSA’s Issues of Substance conference. 

What You Need to Know about the New Cannabis Products will be a special keynote panel discussion that is intended to help increase awareness about the new cannabis products that will become legal for purchase on October 17 of this year. The session will discuss the new legislation, the health effects of these products, how to use them in a low-risk manner and youth perspectives about them.

Panelists include:  

John Clare,  Health Canada 
John is the acting director general of strategic policy with the Controlled Substances and Cannabis Branch of Health Canada.

Dr. David Hammond, University of Waterloo 
David leads the International Cannabis Policy Study, which is evaluating the impact of cannabis legalization in Canada and the United States.

Jacqueline Relihan,  Centre for Addiction and Mental Health  
Jacqueline has lived experience and serves as a youth engagement facilitator at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Dr. Amy Porath, director of research at CCSA, will moderate the session.  

This special plenary panel will take place from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Monday, November 25, during the two-hour lunch break. Simultaneous interpretation in French will be available for those in attendance.

Previously, CCSA announced Ian Culbert, Harold Johnson, Stephanie Lake and Tom Stamatakis  as keynote speakers for the conference.
