Opening Keynote Speaker for CCSA’s Issues of Substance Conference

Award-winning author Harold Johnson is the opening keynote speaker for CCSA’s Issues of Substance conference in Ottawa this coming November. His presentation is called The Firewater Story.
Johnson’s works include a mix of fiction and non-fiction publications and he has won awards for both. His novel, The Cast Stone, won the Saskatchewan Book Award for fiction, while his non-fiction title, Two Families: Treaties and Government, won the Saskatchewan Book Award for Aboriginal Publishing. His other non-fiction publication, Firewater: How Alcohol Is Killing My People (and Yours), was shortlisted for a Governor General’s Literary Award for non-fiction.
Johnson holds a Master of Laws degree from Harvard University. He managed a private practice for several years before becoming a Crown prosecutor. Prior to attending university, Johnson enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and worked as a logger, trapper and miner.
Johnson will present during the opening morning of the conference on November 25. CCSA will release the complete line up for the conference in the coming weeks.
